Reading the Fine Print: What Does Wedding Insurance Not Cover?
Wedding insurance is an incredible safety net, but it’s just as important to understand its limitations as it is to know its benefits. No policy covers absolutely everything, and being aware of the common exclusions can prevent disappointment later. We believe in transparency, so here’s a straightforward guide to what is typically not covered by a standard wedding insurance policy.
Changing Your Mind (Cold Feet)
While insurance covers cancellation for many unforeseen reasons, it won’t cover a change of heart. If either party decides they no longer wish to get married, the policy will not pay out for any of the costs incurred. This is considered a “disinclination to marry” and is a standard exclusion across all wedding insurance providers.
Known Pre-existing Conditions
Our policies cover cancellation due to unexpected illness or injury. However, they will not typically cover cancellation due to a pre-existing medical condition that you or a close family member were already aware of at the time of purchasing the policy, unless it was a new, unforeseen deterioration of that condition. Honesty and clarity at the outset are key.
Poor Weather (Unless It’s Extreme)
A rainy wedding day is disappointing, but a standard policy won’t cover cancellation just because the weather isn’t perfect. The exception is extreme weather. If conditions are so severe that the couple, or more than half of the guests, are physically unable to reach the venue, or the venue itself is damaged and unusable, then you would likely be covered.
